Worried about putting on weight when you quit?

“If I quit smoking I’ll put on weight…” = MYTH!

A great tip when you are quitting is to try & eat more healthy: it will leave you feeling full of energy and revitalised!

Here are some great tips on healthy eating when quitting -

  • Try to snack on healthy things rather than chocolate and crisps. Check our healthy snacks idea list below for some yummy inspiration!
  • To take your mind off the ciggy cravings, why not try out your skills in the kitchen and cook a nice healthy meal from scratch? http://www.nhs.uk/change4life/Pages/RecipeBookBreakfast.aspx

  • Try new things… you may not have liked a certain food a few years ago, but you might just find you love it now.
  • Try not to go for more than 4-5 hours without food, or your body goes in to ‘starvation mode’ and when you do finally eat it will store the food rather than using it for energy – this is why they tell you to have breakfast!

Healthy snack ideas…

Why not try:

  • A small handful of dried fruit, such as raisins, cranberries, blueberries
  • A few nuts
  • Handful of fresh berries
  • A yoghurt
  • Piece of fresh fruit
  • homemade fruit salad
  • Crackers with some cottage cheese
  • Carrot, celery or cucumber batons dipped in low fat houmous
  • Piece of wholegrain toast with low fat margarine
  • Bread sticks and low fat sour cream dip
